Whitehaven to Berwick-u-Tweed
Coast-2-Coast cycle ride 28/07/2023 to 30/07/2023
The Route
Day 1 – cycling from Whitehaven through the northern lakes to the Scottish border at Gretna. We were staying at Ecclefechan that night and ended up having to cycle the extra miles to get there, Day 2 – from Ecclefechan along the Scott’s side of the border, crossing back into England in the Kielder forest, we spent that night in Rothbury. Day 3 – from Rothbury to Holy Island (only we couldn’t get on because the tide was in) and then along the coast path up to Berwick.
Day 1: Friday 28-07-2023
We had a good night in Whitehaven, the Wetherspoons there is particularly good. Day 1 is overcast, which is ideal for cycling as it won’t be too hot!
Five of us at the start wetting our wheels.
After arriving at Ecclefechan we retired to Annan for our evening meal.
Day 2: Saturday 29-07-2023
Day 2 is a lovely day, scattered clouds as we cycle along the border on the Scottish side.

Day 3: Sunday 30-07-2023
Day 3 we had a lovely night in Rothbury after cycling the longest leg of the journey, 80 miles from Ecclefechan. It started cloudy but the day cleared up in the afternoon.
